Organising a National Conference for the "Sharing Classrooms: Deepening Learning" Programme
The Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education (NICIE) sought our assistance in rolling out the Sharing Classrooms: Deepening Learning programme, an initiative aimed at building confidence among students to engage in shared classrooms with peers from diverse backgrounds. As part of the legacy of the Northern Ireland peace process, this programme aimed to bridge communities through education and foster integration across schools.
Our collaboration with NICIE covered multiple facets of the programme’s development and implementation. We began by working closely with NICIE’s Programme Co-ordinator to create a distinctive logo, establishing a strong visual identity for the initiative. We then provided a series of training sessions across Northern Ireland for school leaders, teachers, students, and parents, helping each group to understand and embrace the programme’s objectives.
One of the most impactful components of our contribution was the organisation of a National Conference held at the Armagh City Hotel. This conference brought together educators and school leaders from across the region and featured keynote speakers, interactive workshops, and facilitated discussions centred around the importance and practicalities of shared classrooms. The event offered a valuable platform for sharing insights, debating ideas, and inspiring schools to actively support students in integrated learning environments.
The Sharing Classrooms: Deepening Learning programme was commended by the Education and Training Inspectorate for Northern Ireland as a high-quality initiative. Learn Spark was honoured to support NICIE’s efforts, from creating the programme’s brand identity to delivering training and coordinating the National Conference. This partnership with NICIE contributed to the programme’s success, building a foundation for shared education across Northern Ireland and strengthening community integration through education.
