TARGET 100 – 10 – This tool can be used to condense important notes, by narrowing down on what is really important. By targeting 100 words and then 10 words, understanding and recall can really be developed
CORNELL NOTE-TAKING STYLE – This tool can be used to condense and organise important notes. The method also involves a requirement to cover and recall key notes which allows for strengthened understanding and faster recall of information.
THE NINE BOX GRID – This tool can be used to summarise notes on a topic or subject. It can be used with or without class notes or textbooks. It is designed to encourage the selection and prioritisation of the really important information. Additionally, a variety of interesting study approaches can be used to fill each of the different boxes to really develop understanding and recall of key information.
SPIDER DIAGRAM – This tool can be used to organise data and information in a logical way, showing connections and relationships. It also allows deeper exploration of topics/concept by breaking them down further and further as they move out from the centre.
MIND MAPPING – This tool can be used to explore a topic by breaking it down into component parts (sections). Through the use of key words, colour and pictures greater understanding can be developed and faster recall of information achieved.
CONTENT/REACTION NOTES – This tool can be used to outline the main ideas, messages, and concepts for different topics. It allows key information to be prioritised, helping to ‘chunk the learning’ and make it less overwhelming. It also encourages deeper thinking about what is being read, enabling more effective processing of information.
POWER NOTES – This tool can be used to outline the main ideas, messages, and concepts of various topics. It creates links between different pieces of information, aiding comprehensive understanding. This method encourages selectivity and prioritisation of key information, ensuring important points are highlighted and retained. By organising notes in a structured manner, Power Notes simplify complex subjects and enhance recall of essential details.
HIERARCHY CHART – This tool can be used to visualise the different elements of a system, process, concept, or organisation. It helps to decide on the most important elements and identify the connections that can be made between them.
