As a profession, we have seen over the years a greater move towards supporting students to become stronger learners. This has centred on students being better able to plan, monitor and evaluate their own approach to learning (classwork, homework, assessments and tests) and using the teachers and classroom assistants as useful resources on their learning journey, as opposed to being the sole directors of their learning.
This course supports the teachers’ to develop their students as independent and self-regulating learners. We explore, in a truly practical and understandable way, what metacognition is and how it can and should be translated into classroom practice, with lots of strategies and approaches being presented. We demonstrate how it’s a real and tangible component of all lessons. Teachers will leave the sessions excited about the attainment possibilities presented by metacognitive development. The course can be delivered over a half day, full day, or over a series of days depending on the extent to which you want to get to the heart of the matter.
