This course is designed for Literacy Co-ordinators, teachers, and any staff involved in intervention strategies, including learning support assistants / classroom assistants.
Seminar Overview:
During the seminar, we will explore:
- The Components of Skilled Reading: Exploring word recognition and reading for meaning and purpose. Learning what makes for effective reading strategies that can significantly improve students’ reading abilities.
- Employ Research-Based Strategies: Discover a range of research-based reading support and development strategies. Learn how to apply these strategies to help students read more effectively, focusing on both the recognition of words and comprehension skills.
- Develop Targeted Intervention Techniques: Gain insights into designing and implementing targeted reading interventions. Learn practical methods to support students who need additional help, ensuring that every learner has the opportunity to develop strong reading skills.
- Empower All School Staff: Understand how to involve and train all school staff in supporting reading development. Explore how teachers, learning support staff, and classroom assistants can contribute to a cohesive approach to reading support.
- Enhance Skills for Curriculum Access: Recognize the critical role reading plays in accessing the curriculum across all subjects. Learn strategies to enhance students’ reading skills, enabling them to engage more effectively with all areas of learning.

Participants can choose to attend seminars in either Antrim or Newry. The exact venue details will be provided nearer to the date. Sessions will run from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm, and lunch is included in the cost.
